This video documents Smithson's famous earthwork site, Spiral Jetty (1970) , a monumental 1,500 by 15-foot-wide spiral constructed of mud, salt crystals, rocks and water on the Great Salt Lake in Rozel Point, Utah. And was shown in Walker Art Center Gallery 3 as part of 100 Years of Sculpture: From the Pedestal to the Pixel. In 100 Years of Sculpture: From the Pedestal to the Pixel, the Walker presents a multigenerational exhibition examining the development of sculpture and the issues surrounding it that have emerged in the 20th century. Drawn primarily from the Walker's permanent collection, the exhibition explores the continuity of sculptural practice and the ability of the medium to accept and incorporate radical disjunctions into that continuity. |
